The county jails should not be used to house the unsheltered population, and law enforcement should not be used as a tool to solve homelessness. 

The Sheriff has a role in making sure the public is informed about resources to prevent homelessness or resources for unsheltered individuals.

Sustainable Solutions to Homelessness

I want to work with community service providers to find sustainable long-term solutions to homelessness rather than through incarceration and displacement. This includes advocating for funding to support evidence-based mobile crisis response teams. When law enforcement arrives first to a call involving an unsheltered individual, the duty is not to arrest, but to direct individuals to available wrap-around services, such as temporary housing, mental health care, or long-term drug dependency facilities.
